I finished the remaining Sassanid units and a small display base for the upcoming Saga tournament. The extra units are mounted and dismounted Sughdians – the later completed last week but forgotten in the previous update.
The tournament display is pretty simple and only holds the specific units – and alternates – needed for the tournament. My list includes 1.5 points of Hearthguard (6 Cataphract), 1.5 points of Warriors (12 Horse Archers with Warbanner), 1 point of Levy (either 12 Archers or 12 Spearmen for missions where I have to hold ground), 1 point of Mercenaries (Deserters – using the unit of Sughdians on foot which includes a few archers to visualize the shooting ability of the Deserters), and 1 point of Elephant. The baggage and objective markers for the tournament are on the board as well.

I painted a cheerful Sassanid army for an upcoming Saga tournament. The figures are all from Aventine Miniatures with only the second elephant being converted to match the theme.
Having finished the infantry for the Ordenstaat force a while ago, I am now added the knights. 10 Teutonic Knights, 6 from the Livonian Order, and various commanders.
The next phase of the medieval adventure will be a force of Hussites. Below at the first few warriors of God.
July was medieval madness. I pushed through a host of figures to form a generic base for 13th century European armies (or Crusaders. Usable for Saga Age of Crusades or Baron’s Wars. They have their own page here now.
I finished my generic force of the Greek Cities in Saga Age of Alexander. They now have their own page here.
The final additions where a set of hoplites, peltasts and a warlord.
I am expanding into the Age of Alexander, starting with some “generics”, Three units of levy with bows, slings and javelins, as well as some Thureophoroi, Thorakitai, and Theban Sacred Band. The actual hoplites will come later, I promise!
My quest to finish my 1st edition backlog has come to a close. Below the Norse-Gael, Welsh, and (small) Scots contingent. All done for Age of Vikings now!
I had a burst of energy to paint all my left-over figures for Saga Age of Vikings. These are joining armies painted ~15 years ago so I had to match my paint style of that time. While painting these, I realized that I had been misinterpreting the Gripping Beast plastic shields as “rimmed” shields. Instead, I think they are meant to represent shield covers stretched over the entire shield front and secured in the back. Armed with that knowledge, I of course absolutely had to repaint all of the shields in my Saga collection! Each shield had the edges painted to extend the colour scheme of the original transfer. Fiddly work but satisfying.
First the new additions: Various legenday warlords, Jomsvikings with and without Dane Axes, Jomsviking Dreng, and assorted add-ons to existing units.

Over the last few weeks I have been painting an Ordenstaat force for Saga. These are the Teutonic Knights who invaded Prussia and gradually displaced the native tribes. Still missing the knightly cavalry, but there is a decent foot force done.
