Seleucid

The Seleucids are one of the most varied armies in DBA. As effective inheritors of Persian and Alexandrian (or Successor) traditions they cover everything from solid infantry formations to varied cavalry and even esoteric units such as Elephants.

The army is designed to cover all four Seleucid lists from II/19a to II/19d. The respective time periods of 320-280BC, 279-205BC, 204-167BC and 166-83BC puts them in a position to fight several of the armies from my Greek City States collection, the Romans and even the Spartans or Thracians.

Cavalry: Companion Cavalry are a clear tied between the Seleucids and their Alexandrian ancestors. The four Seleucid lists make a transition between 3-model to 4-model Knights over time and also introduce a 3-model Cavalry element in the later half. I am generally classifying the 3-model base as Cavalry while the Companion Cavalry with the General and the heavily armoured Cataphract elements are both classed as Knights. The Light Horse base is much more Persian in nature with the typical helmets of the period.

Elephants: Elephants are one of the fun units introduced by the Seleucids. Two Elephants working in concert can ruin the day for most conventional armies.

Chariot: The earlier Seleucid lists have an option for a Scythed Chariot. The model is a conversion of a left-over Gallic chariot with additional horses and a Seleucid archer.

Pikes: Both regular Pikes and the famous “Silver Shields” elite unit provide a solid centre for the otherwise very mixed Seleucid army.

Heavy Auxilia: Supporting the Pikes are up to two elements of Heavy Auxilia using a fighting style borrowed from the Romans.

Blades & Warband: The Seleucid had access to some more esoteric units including mercenaries from Cappadocia (classed as Warband) and imitation Legionnaires (classed as Blades).

Psiloi: Light skirmishers in the form of slingers or bowmen around out the army.

Camp: The Seleucid camp can be upgraded to a Built-Up Area (BUA) with the addition of a second 80mm by 40mm base which extends the size and narrative of the diorama. . The camp base has a removable Camp Follower element.
